چکیده

Rabies is one of the most dreaded diseases known to mankind and it endemic in Nigeria. This study was aimed at detection molecular characterisation rabies virus antigen trade dogs Plateau State. A cross-sectional performed determine prevalence brain tissues slaughtered dogs, from February June 2018 using a direct fluorescent antibody test mouse inoculation technique. Direct Fluorescent Antibody Test, Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), sequencing phylogenetic analysis identified were also undertaken. Phylogenetic done evolutionary genetic (MEGA) 10 their relationship with other sequences deposited Genbank. Results indicated, out 450 dog samples tested 14(3.1%) positive for antigen. Zoographic data obtained showed 66.3% female, kept mainly security (n=54) breeding (n=28). Fourteen used inoculate 70 adult mice, only 8 2 by RT PCR. nucleotide that two this study, sequence MZ148311 had very close identity EU038106 (99.8% homology) MZ148312 perfect EU038087 (100% closely related lyssavirus has been reported be circulating previously Nigeria, belonging Africa lineage.

Molecular identification of Cordylobia anthropophaga Blanchard (Diptera: Calliphoridae) larvae collected from dogs (Canis familiaris) in Jos South, Plateau State, Nigeria.

Myiasis-causing larvae were extracted from dogs attending veterinary clinics in Plateau State, Nigeria and subjected to molecular analysis involving polymerase chain reaction amplification of the 28S rRNA gene of blowflies, cloning and sequencing techniques. All larvae were confirmed as Cordylobia anthropophaga Blanchard (Diptera: Calliphoridae) after the initial morphological identificati...

Molecular characterization of Korean rabies virus isolates

The nucleoprotein (N) and glycoprotein (G) of 11 Korean rabies virus (RABV) isolates collected from animals diagnosed with rabies between 2008 and 2009 were subjected to molecular and phylogenetic analyses. Six isolates originated from domestic animals (cattle and dogs) and five were obtained from wild free-ranging raccoon dogs. The similarities in the nucleotide sequences of the N gene among a...

Pathogenesis of Rabies Virus Infection in Dogs: Do Dogs Recover from Clinical Rabies?

Dogs are the principal transmitter of rabies to man and animals in most countries of Africa, Asia and South America, where they are responsible for over 95% of the human rabies cases reported world-wide (WHO, 1989). The clinical course of rabies in dogs and that it could be transmitted by bite has been known for over 4000 years (Tierkel, 1975). After the virus is introduced to the body by bite ...

Molecular characterization of hepatitis A virus isolates from Nigeria.

OBJECTIVE Despite the endemicity of hepatitis A virus (HAV) in Nigeria, genetic information on the HAV genotypes/subgenotypes circulating in the country remains unknown. The objective of this study was to investigate HAV strains using molecular epidemiological and genetic analyses among apparently healthy adult Nigerian subjects. METHODS Testing for HAV-RNA was performed on 114 serum samples ...
